AICE General Paper

Classwork:  Hot Words List #1, words 9 & 10 (do this as soon as you enter class- see the board).  Hand in hot words.  Ask for topic for Journal #1, take journal from bin, complete it and put it back in the bin.  Ask for your Figurative Language Terms back.  Ask for handouts on structured poems and cinquains.  Complete the two poems on the cinquain handout, put a proper heading on it, circle the poem that is better, in your opinion, and hand it in.
Homework:  Finish UpFront activity and hand in by 9/4/19 or next class if we do not meet that day.

AICE General Paper

Classwork:  Hot Words List #1, words 7 & 8 (bring them in completed).  Ask for the poems were read and discussed this class and be able to apply Figurative Language terms to them.  Make sure we have put your square on the class poster.
Homework:  Hot Words and keep working on UpFront activity.

Journalism I

Classwork:  Ask for directions for Daily News Notes and for a copy of The Wall Street Journal for 8/23/19, make it up in your journal that stays in class.  Ask for a Leonard Pitts column on plagiarism; read it and be able to answer questions, but nothing to turn in for it.
Homework:  Read the news.

AICE General Paper (Thursday, 8/22/19)

Classwork:  There were no new Hot Words today.  Ask for an FSA writing rubric.  Ask for a direction sheet for UpFront magazine and the magazine dated 9/2/19.  The UpFront assignment is due on 9/4/19.  We continued sharing "We Fit" projects.  Look up on-line, the poems "The Tyger" and "The Lamb" by William Blake.  Be able to find the Figurative Language terms to the poems.  (We finished note taking on those terms in class as the online textbook is not available.
Homework:  UpFront magazine activity.

Journalism I

Classwork:  Students were paired and presented projects.  Ask to present yours so you are not missing that 20% of your grade.  Read and take notes on quoting vs. paraphrasing from pages 186-194 of the Journalism Today textbook; especially be aware of the vocabulary at the top of p.187.
Homework:  Read the news.

A-day Students:  I assigned work in our 9th grade Collections textbook.  At the moment, the online book is unavailable.  I am working with someone in charge of access to the ebook.  Please check back here throughout the day as we work to resolve the issue.  Thank you.  Ms. Manella (don't stress).

AICE General Paper

Classwork:  Hand in "We Fit" project.  Hot Words List 1, using only Punctuation Formula #1, words 3 & 4 (see definitions on board).  Using My HRW on-line, find the 9th grade Collections textbook for this course.  Using the reference pages at the back (p.R57-R75) write the following terms and their definitions from the book on a paper with a proper heading, title it "Figurative Language Terms" and hand it in at the start of next class:  tone, mood, metaphor, simile, alliteration, allusion, personification, hyperbole, imagery, onomatopoeia, rhyme, repetition.  We also discussed quotations about poetry.
Homework:  Hot Words and finish taking notes on Figurative Language Terms.

AICE General Paper

Classwork:  Hand in syllabus acknowledgement form.  Using rough draft of "We Fit" writing, write second draft, using more detail (or cutting back if you wrote a great deal).  Ask for bathroom passes.  Ask for punctuation formula handout.  Copy and complete Hot Words List #1 words 1 & 2 (see front board) and ask for directions.
Homework:  Finish "We Fit" project:  lightly shade in template with colored pencils (some type of design), paste photo in bottom right corner (2" x 2", from 2019, only you), write final copy on template and staple it on top of other drafts.  Due on Tuesday at the start of class.
