Journalism I

Classwork:  Daily News Notes #12 (two editorials).  Using a newspaper, cut out a news article, paste it to the back of a lined paper.  Read the article.  On the front, write a editorial reacting to the news article.  Follow the directions in your notes and think of the examples used in your last two daily news notes.  The editorial will be hand written, at least half a page, and titled.  At the top of the page write "My Editorial."
Homework:  Read the news.

AICE General Paper

Classwork:  No journal.  Hand in UpFront magazine activity (dated 9/16/19).  Today we read "The Odyssey" Books XIII-XVI (except for Book XVII, we read them in nextext as Collections only offers summaries of all but XVII.  Read from Collections online, including those little summaries of the missing books).  Stop by my classroom for your Hot Words List #2 back (see Homework).
Homework:  Study BOTH Hot Words List #1 & 2 for Hot Words Quiz 2, next class.

Journalism I

Classwork:  Daily News Notes #11.  Using a class copy of the Wall Street Journal, cut out one of each:  an editorial, a letter to the editor and a column.  Paste them to a paper titled "Opinion Page Elements".  Label each type of opinion writing.  Read each article and circle only the opinion words.
Homework;  Read the news.

AICE General Paper

Classwork:  See Hot Words List #2, words 9 & 10 on board.  Complete and turn in, in class.  Grammar Overhead #9.  Ask to see your essay #1 back.  Read books XII of "The Odyssey."

Journalism I (Thursday, 9/19/19)

Classwork:  Daily News Notes #9.  Using your ten press conference questions, interview teacher and take notes.  Hand write a rough draft article.  Type final copy of article, at least 1/2 page typed with headline (Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, 12 point font).
Homework:  Type article and bring to next class (due 9/23/19).

AICE General Paper

Classwork:  Immediately make up Hot Words List #2, words 7 & 8.  Ask for Journal #8 topic.  Ask for you graded Cinquain poem back.  Make up Parts of Speech quiz.  Read books X & XI of "The Odyssey." (read it in Collections  on line and when you get back to class, skim through the nextext version for more details.)

Homework:  Hot Words, UpFront (due 9/26) & study for a Parts of Speech quiz (4th hour:  stop by on a B-day if you are absent to get your notes to prepare for the quiz).

Classwork:  Daily News Notes #8.  Students shared group articles. Graded articles were handed back to review, ask to see your group's article.
Write ten questions as preparation for a mock press conference next class where a person who has created a new type of beauty product will premier it at New York Fashion Week.  Your newspaper has sent you to write an article about the product.
Homework:  Read the news from multiple sources.

Classwork:  Ask for Journal #6 to make up.  Hot Words List #2, words 3 & 4.  UpFront handed back and new UpFront (dated 9/16/19) handed out:  A-day due on 9/26/19 & B-day due on 9/27/19.  Read nextext version of "The Odyssey" Books III-VIII.

Classwork:  Hand in UpFront due on 9/4/19.  Ask for Hot Words List #1 back.  Ask for Journal topic #2.  Using the Writer's Inc. book on the shelves at the front of class, take notes on the eight parts of speech (pages 501-517).  Hand in Parts of Speech Notes.
Homework:  Study for Figurative Language Terms quiz on 9/10/19 (know the definitions and how to spell the terms- you will supply the terms on the quiz).  Study for Hot Words Quiz #1 on 9/12/19. 

Journalism I

Classwork:  Daily News Notes #3 (ask how to make this up).  Cut out three NEWS articles from a newspaper.  Apply questions 1-8 from Attribution Exercise handout (you already have this paper with you).  Paste each complete (no "continued on page A7" or "continued from page A1" unless you cut out all parts of that article) article to lined paper, number 1-8 and write out answers only (does not need to be complete sentences).  Do this for all three and then write out answer to question #9, one time.  Hand it in.
Homework:  Finish Attribution Exercise.
