Classwork:  Daily News Notes #39.  Read and take notes from the Journalism Today textbook pages 170-175 on headline writing.  Groups met and read articles written about their own group's presentations.  They critiqued them for points.
Homework: Read the news.

Classwork:  Journal #28:  Describe one time that you felt respected and treated fairly. (include word count).  Read Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech from Collections textbook pages 47-52.  Write out answers only to questions 1-7 from p.53 on paper and hand in.  Make sure to show evidence if it asks for it.  You have the textbook access on-line on the My HRW through your Clever log-in.  Make sure you are using the student e-book for 9th grade.


4th hour: 
Classwork:  Students took home journals and wrote for Journal #27:  Describe one time that you felt grown up (include word count).  Students used rubrics and worked in groups to create a poster for a TKM character.
Homework:  Journal and bring the journal back.

Classwork:  Daily News Notes #36.  Get back the start of your rough draft article for Press Conference #2.  (If you were absent, stop by anytime to get your work-don't wait until class).  Finish the draft and make it better in your final, typed copy (Times New Roman, 1.5 line spacing, 12 point font).  All parts are due next class, with typed copy, properly headed.

Classwork:  Journal #23 (ask me).  Hot Words Quiz #5.  New notes on Punctuation Formula Sheet.  Using Punctuation Formula #6, apply it to Hot Words List #6, words 1 & 2.  AICE workbook:  read pages 6-8, answer (only) questions a-e in Activity 2 on page 8.
Homework:  Read and take notes for Chapters 25 & 26 of TKM.  Hot Words.

Classwork:  Grammar Overhead #22.  We reviewed Chapters 21 & 22 of TKM.  Ask for a sheet entitled "Atticus' Closing Statement" (SMELL strategy).  Reread his closing statement to the jury, at the end of Chapter 20 (4 pages) and write out answers to the questions.  Ask for a new UpFront (dated 1/6/20).
Homework:  Study for Hot Words Quiz #5, ask for list back if you were absent today (BEFORE the quiz, so you have it to study).  Read and take notes for Chapters 23 & 24 of TKM.
